Scope and Contents

The Debevoise Family Papers includes documents and information related to several members of the Debevoise Family. Besides containing general information about the Debevoise Family, this collection includes materials relating to George Washington Debevoise's time in the Civil War; Elliott Debevoise's participation in World War I; Dickinson R. Debevoise's (DRD) service in World War II, his time as a student at Williams College (Williams 1946), involvement in the group Democrats for Good Government, and his participation in political and Civil Rights movements such as Mississippi Freedom Summer, Essex County Bar Foundation Civil Rights Committee, Lawyers Constitutional Defense Committee, and the Newark Legal Services Project. The record types included in this collection are: correspondence, photographs, research material, drawings, books, and other miscellaneous printed material.
