Raquel Douglas papers on "From Lavender to Purple Ephs"
Scope and Contents
The Raquel Douglas papers on "From Lavender to Purple Ephs" includes material that supported the project at Williams College created and curated by Raquel Douglas called "From Lavender to Purple Ephs." The collection includes original sketches, flyers, artifacts, digital content, postcards, and the original posters that were exhibited both in Sawyer Library and in Paresky. According to the press release on the Williams College website from November 4, 2016: "This is a project about the stories and thoughts of self-identifying women of color on their relationship to Williams. It gives them spaces and to see themselves reflected on campus and agency over how. Various large and permanent installations will be unveiled across campus Homecoming Weekend, with small events. On November 4th, at 5:15pm, the first and largest of the pieces will be unveiled, with food and a reception from 5-8pm. Saturday night there'll be a swipe snack bar in Mission starting at 8:30pm. That piece will be unveiled before snack bar begins and no formal programming will occur around this one. Overnight, some magical fairy will release the online and the Sawyer installation, without formal programming. Saturday, Nov. 5th, a swipe dinner from 5-8 will occur in Whitman's. Come, eat in Paresky, and go upstairs to see the piece if you haven't already. Proceeds from this swipe dinner and Friday night's swipe snack bar will go to the Elizabeth Freeman Center in Pittsfield and Doctor's Without Borders. This project was created and organized by Rocky Douglas (’19) in response to a lack of physical representation on campus. This project was sponsored by the VP of Campus Life, the Office of Student Life, the Williams College Feminist Collective, the Davis Center, the Africana Studies Department, the VP for Institutional Diversity and Equity, the Art Department, the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department, the Dean's Office, the Black Student Union, VISTA, the Chaplain's Office, the Alumni Office, and others."
